Fukuyama Castle

1 of 1 in Fukuyama

Fukuyama Castle (福山城) is located directly across from Fukuyama Station, perched on a low hill. Originally built in 1622, it served as a key defensive base in western Japan during the Edo period. The current main keep, reconstructed in 1966 after being destroyed in World War II, features a distinctive design—one side covered in black iron plating and the other three painted white. Inside, visitors can explore a modern museum and enjoy panoramic views of the city.

The surrounding castle park is a popular cherry blossom spot in April. Nearby attractions include the Fukuju Kaikan, a historic building blending traditional and Western architectural styles, set within beautifully maintained gardens. Visitors can also explore the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of History and the Fukuyama Museum of Art, both offering fascinating exhibits on regional history and culture. Fukuyama Castle provides a well-rounded experience of history, culture, and scenic beauty.
