Kofu Castle (甲府城, Kōfu-jō), also known as Maizurujo Castle, is a historic ruin located in the heart of Kofu City, now part of the tranquil Maizurujo Park. Originally constructed in the late 16th century by Toyotomi Hideyoshi to symbolize his power, the castle was later seized by the Tokugawa clan after the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 and remained in their possession until the Meiji Restoration. While the castle was dismantled following this period, the park preserves the original layout, including its ancient stone walls, offering visitors a window into the past. One of the park's highlights is the reconstructed Inari Yagura turret, standing proudly at its edge, providing breathtaking panoramic views of Kofu City and the surrounding mountains.

In addition to the turret, Maizurujo Park features a beautifully landscaped Japanese garden that enhances the peaceful ambiance of the area. The main citadel, or honmaru, lies at the heart of the park, offering a vantage point that allows visitors to appreciate both the historic significance and the scenic beauty of the location. The park also offers an informative diorama within the reconstructed turret, showing what the castle looked like during its prime. With its impressive stone walls, ornate gates, and serene environment, Kofu Castle is an excellent destination for those interested in Japan’s history and its natural surroundings, making it a must-see attraction in the city.
