Seisonkaku Villa
Seisonkaku Villa (成巽閣, Seisonkaku), located in the southeast corner of Kenrokuen Garden, is a stunning example of traditional Japanese architecture. Built in the final years of the Edo Period by a Maeda lord for his mother, this elegant villa is one of the best-preserved samurai residences in Japan. The villa features expansive tatami rooms spread across two floors, giving visitors a rare glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle of the samurai elite. Its serene atmosphere and meticulously crafted interiors reflect the grace and sophistication of the period.
One of Seisonkaku's most striking features is its roof, designed to cover a garden viewing deck while preserving an unobstructed view of the surrounding landscape. This thoughtful design ensures that the beauty of Kenrokuen Garden is not overshadowed. The villa also has a direct entrance to the garden, though visitors must pay a separate admission fee to enter. With clear signage in both Japanese and English, Seisonkaku is an accessible and peaceful destination for those wishing to explore a significant part of Kanazawa's samurai heritage.
