Seisonkaku Villa
Seisonkaku Villa (成巽閣, Seisonkaku), located in the southeast corner of Kanazawa’s renowned Kenrokuen Garden, was built during the late Edo Period by a Maeda lord for his mother. This exquisite villa is one of the finest remaining examples of a samurai residence, offering visitors a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle of the period’s elite. The villa features spacious tatami rooms spread across two floors, elegantly decorated and meticulously preserved, showcasing the architectural beauty and refinement characteristic of the era.
One of Seisonkaku's most striking features is its distinctive roof, which cleverly shelters a garden viewing deck while maintaining an unobstructed view of the surrounding landscape. This thoughtful design allows visitors to enjoy a panoramic view of Kenrokuen's stunning beauty without any interruptions. The villa has direct access to the garden, though an additional admission fee is required for entry. With bilingual signage in both Japanese and English, Seisonkaku is accessible to all visitors, offering a peaceful and historically rich experience at the heart of Kanazawa.
