Otsuka Museum of Art

Highly Recommended
1 of 1 in Naruto

The Otsuka Museum of Art (大塚国際美術館, Ōtsuka Kokusai Bijutsukan), located within Naruto Park, is Japan’s largest art museum and a truly unique destination for art lovers. Instead of displaying original works, the museum features over a thousand full-scale, high-quality ceramic reproductions of Western masterpieces, ranging from ancient murals to iconic paintings by artists like Michelangelo, Monet, and Picasso. Visitors can admire life-size recreations of legendary sites such as the Sistine Chapel ceiling, Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” and even entire church interiors, altars, and tombs, all meticulously reproduced. The museum was established in 1998 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Otsuka Pharmaceutical Group and offers a rare opportunity to explore centuries of Western art history without leaving Japan.

Beyond the impressive art collection, the museum itself is an inviting and memorable place to spend the day. Guests can relax on scenic terraces, stroll through beautifully maintained gardens, and enjoy a range of on-site dining options, including cafes with lovely views of the surrounding nature. The spacious, well-designed building encourages visitors to take their time and fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere. A visit to the Otsuka Museum of Art is both an inspiring artistic journey and a chance to unwind in stunning surroundings—an experience that appeals to art aficionados and casual visitors alike.
