Yokaichi Old Town
Yokaichi Old Town in Uchiko is a beautifully preserved district known for its Meiji-era architecture. In the late 19th century, wealthy local merchants transformed the town with elegant homes, leading to Yokaichi’s reputation for high-quality white wax production. Today, the district showcases a unique collection of large, stylish buildings from the Meiji Period (1868-1912). The area has been carefully restored to maintain its historical charm.
Among the 90 buildings lining Yokaichi Street, the Kamihaga Residence stands out as the most impressive. Now open to the public as a museum, it offers visitors a chance to step back in time and experience the elegance of Uchiko’s past.
