Umitamago Aquarium
Umitamago Aquarium (うみたまご), located just outside Beppu city, is a stunning fusion of nature and design, making it one of Japan's most visually striking aquariums. The aquarium's innovative architecture, featuring sleek lines and expansive windows, creates an immersive atmosphere where marine life is showcased in a way that feels more like a modern art exhibit than a traditional aquarium. Inside, visitors are greeted by an array of sea creatures, including playful penguins, intelligent dolphins, curious seals, otters, and an assortment of vibrant fish. Each exhibit is thoughtfully designed to highlight the beauty of the ocean, blending art and nature seamlessly to create an unforgettable experience.
In addition to its aquatic exhibits, Umitamago Aquarium is conveniently located near the Takasakiyama Monkey Park, making it easy to explore both attractions in one trip. At the monkey park, visitors can get up close and personal with wild monkeys in their natural habitat, adding an exciting contrast to the serene world of marine life. The combination of watching dolphins swim and observing monkeys interact in the wild offers a diverse and enriching experience for all ages. Whether you're captivated by marine life, fascinated by wildlife, or inspired by artistic displays, Umitamago Aquarium promises to be a memorable stop on your Beppu adventure.
