Yakusugi Land (屋久杉ランド) is a captivating nature park on Yakushima Island, celebrated for its ancient cedar trees known as yakusugi—some of which are over a millennium old. The park offers a variety of hiking trails catering to all skill levels, ranging from easy, family-friendly boardwalks to more challenging routes that venture deeper into the forest. The shortest trail takes visitors along a scenic boardwalk directly to one of these majestic ancient cedars, providing a close-up experience of their remarkable size and age. For those seeking a longer, more adventurous hike, the trails extend further into the wilderness, culminating in a climb to the summit of Tachudake, where stunning panoramic views of the island reward your efforts.

Just a short 15-minute drive from Yakusugi Land is Kigensugi, another impressive and massive cedar tree. Unlike many others, Kigensugi is easily accessible by car, making it a convenient stop for visitors. With English signage and informative pamphlets available throughout the park, Yakusugi Land offers an excellent opportunity for travelers of all backgrounds to immerse themselves in Yakushima’s ancient forests and experience the awe-inspiring yakusugi up close.
