The mangrove forests are located about halfway between Amami City and Setouchi along the island's main road. By car, it takes just over an hour from Amami Airport, or 30 minutes from both Amami City and Setouchi.
Alternatively, buses run every 90 minutes between Amami City and Setouchi, stopping at Mangrove Park-mae. The bus ride takes about 40 minutes and costs around 1000 yen one way.

Mangrove Forest
The Mangrove Forest in Amami Oshima is the second largest in Japan, following only the one on Iriomote Island in Okinawa. Located along the central east coast, the mangroves offer an unforgettable adventure for nature lovers. Tourists can explore this unique ecosystem by kayaking along the river network and lush mangroves, with guided tours providing a deeper understanding of the area’s natural beauty. Kayaking is especially great during high tide, as more river offshoots become accessible, but it’s equally enjoyable during low tide.
Kayak tours are available from various operators, with those at Mangrove Park being particularly convenient as they don’t require advance reservations. These one-hour tours are led by knowledgeable guides who help you navigate the mangrove waterways. Besides kayaking, Mangrove Park features a café, shop, observation deck, and a "ground golf" course for a well-rounded visit.
