Yoshikien Garden

13 of 15 in Nara

Yoshikien (吉城園) is a peaceful Japanese garden in the heart of Nara, featuring three distinct garden styles in one charming location. Its name comes from the nearby Yoshikigawa River, which gently flows alongside the garden. Once the site of Kofukuji Temple’s priest residences, the grounds now beautifully showcase traditional Japanese landscaping.

Visitors can enjoy a tranquil pond garden, a lush moss garden, and a refined tea ceremony garden—all within the same grounds. This variety offers a unique glimpse into different aspects of Japanese garden design. Just across the small river, the neighboring Isuien Garden presents even more examples for those interested in the art of Japanese gardening.
