Arima Toys and Automata Museum
The Arima Toys and Automata Museum (有馬玩具博物館), opened in 2003 by Mr. Hironobu Kanai—the 15th-generation owner of the historic Goshoboh ryokan — is a charming and interactive destination in the heart of Arima Onsen. Created in collaboration with renowned toy designer Mr. Yuzo Kato and automata artist Mr. Akio Nishida, the museum was born from a shared passion for craftsmanship and play. Visitors are invited to fully engage their senses through the museum’s philosophy of “watch, listen, play, and build.” The six-story facility houses an impressive collection of traditional toys, wooden puzzles, moving automata, and nostalgic curiosities from around the world—blending timeless entertainment with tactile discovery.
What sets the museum apart is its hands-on, language-free approach—perfect for families, international tourists, and curious minds of all ages. Guests are encouraged to touch, explore, and interact with the exhibits, supported by helpful staff and multilingual brochures available in English and Chinese. Designated play zones and craft areas allow children to build their own toys or watch intricate automata come to life. Whether you're seeking rainy-day fun, a break from the onsen, or simply a dose of childhood wonder, the Arima Toys and Automata Museum brings a playful and heartwarming touch to any visit to Arima Onsen.
