Otaru Snow Light Path Festival

Part of Otaru

The Otaru Snow Light Path Festival (小樽雪あかりの路, Otaru Yuki Akari no Michi) transforms the charming city of Otaru into a magical winter wonderland every February. Lantern-lit snow sculptures decorate the streets, canals, and pathways, creating a warm and enchanting atmosphere. The Unga venue along the iconic Otaru Canal features illuminated buoys and snow statues, while the Temiyasen venue offers a lantern-lined path along a former railway line. The Tenguyama venue, accessed by ropeway, provides breathtaking views of the city and festival lights.

Held alongside the Sapporo Snow Festival, this event is a must-see for travelers in Hokkaido. Local businesses also join in, displaying lanterns that enhance the festive spirit. The main venues, except Tenguyama, are within walking distance of Otaru Station and light up daily from 5 PM to 9 PM. The combination of snow, lights, and community spirit makes this festival a unique winter experience.
