Fukiya Village is small, and all the attractions in the main town are easy to reach on foot. The Sasaune Mine is about a 20-minute walk (one kilometer) south of the village.

Sasaune Mine
Sasaune Mine (笹畝坑道) offers visitors a captivating look into the area's copper mining history. This former copper mine shaft, now open to the public, provides a rare underground experience. The temperature inside remains a cool 15 degrees Celsius year-round, offering a refreshing escape from the outside heat. As visitors venture through the mine, they can explore the main shaft, which stretches into a large chamber connected to additional tunnels. Along the way, life-sized mannequins are displayed to illustrate how workers once mined copper and melanterite—the raw material used to produce the iconic red iron oxide, bengara.
The mine offers a unique opportunity to delve into the region’s industrial past, providing an immersive experience of historical mining techniques. As they walk through the dimly lit tunnels, visitors can see the traditional tools and methods used by miners to extract valuable minerals. This journey into the depths of Sasaune Mine not only highlights the area's rich mining heritage but also offers an educational and memorable adventure for visitors of all ages.
