Ota Residence
The Ota Residence (太田家住宅), a historic home with a fascinating past, was once the residence of a family that pioneered homeishu brewing in the late 17th century. From 1710 until the Meiji Period, the family held a monopoly on homeishu production, which contributed greatly to their prosperity. As the business declined, the residence was sold, but many of its original features were carefully preserved by the new owners. Today, visitors can explore this cultural treasure, including its traditional tatami-mat rooms, charming tea rooms, and the storehouses where homeishu was once brewed.
This grand residence offers a glimpse into the past and highlights the craftsmanship of a bygone era. It’s a must-visit for those interested in Japanese history, especially the art of homeishu production. The well-preserved rooms and serene atmosphere provide an authentic experience of traditional Japanese living.
