Gujo Hachiman Castle

1 of 1 in Gujo-Hachiman

Gujo Hachiman Castle (郡上八幡城, Gujō-Hachimanjō), originally constructed in 1559, is perched on a hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the charming town below. Although the castle was rebuilt in 1933 using wood instead of concrete, it still maintains its traditional allure, with its exterior closely resembling the original design. The interior, however, has been altered over time. Surrounded by lush nature, the castle provides a peaceful escape that transports visitors back in time, offering a glimpse into Japan's feudal past.

In the fall, Gujo Hachiman Castle is transformed into a vibrant spectacle as the surrounding maple trees change color, covering the hill in brilliant hues of red and gold. The castle’s beauty is further enhanced during the evening light displays held from early to mid-November, creating a magical atmosphere. This seasonal transformation makes the castle an especially popular destination for those drawn to both stunning natural landscapes and the rich history of Japan’s past.
