Nagoya City Science Museum

3 of 35 in Nagoya

The Nagoya City Science Museum (名古屋市科学館, Nagoya-shi Kagakukan) is instantly recognizable by its massive silver globe, which houses one of the largest planetariums in the world. Located in Shirakawa Park, this futuristic structure attracts visitors from across Japan with monthly rotating astronomy shows that feature breathtaking starfields, cosmic phenomena, and immersive galactic storytelling. Although the planetarium presentations are in Japanese, the dazzling visuals and full-dome projections transcend language, offering an unforgettable journey through the universe. Spread across seven floors, the museum is designed to make science fun, hands-on, and accessible for all ages.

Five of those floors are dedicated to interactive exhibits where visitors can touch, test, and explore a wide range of scientific concepts. From the swirling air column in the Tornado Lab to the electrifying displays in the Electric Discharge Lab, each area delivers dynamic demonstrations that mix learning with spectacle. The Deep Freezing Lab allows guests to step into Arctic-like conditions at –30°C, offering a thrilling simulation of life at Earth’s coldest extremes. In addition to its permanent exhibits, the museum also hosts seasonal and traveling exhibitions in its basement halls, ensuring there's always something new for both first-time and returning visitors.
