Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium
The Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium (名古屋港水族館), perched along the vibrant waterfront of Nagoya Port, ranks among Japan’s largest and most captivating aquariums. Spread across two spacious buildings, it guides visitors through five major aquatic regions—from Japan’s coastal seas to the icy waters of Antarctica. Guests can marvel at a wide variety of marine life, including powerful orcas, playful beluga whales, and sleek dolphins, as well as sea turtles, jellyfish, tropical fish, and rare deep-sea creatures. The aquarium’s beautifully designed tanks and realistic ecosystems offer an immersive journey into the wonders of the ocean.
The South Building is dedicated to marine mammals and features expansive pools, research facilities, and a large stadium where dolphin shows are performed three times a day. These dynamic performances, complete with synchronized jumps and trainer-led tricks, are a major highlight for families. Meanwhile, the North Building houses global marine habitats, interactive touch pools, and feeding sessions where children and adults alike can engage with sea life up close. Visitors can also watch penguins waddle across icy landscapes and enjoy high-tech exhibits like underwater camera feeds. Located near the lively Garden Pier area and shopping complexes, the aquarium makes for a full-day family adventure in Nagoya’s scenic southern district.
