Les Archives du Coeur

2 of 2 in Teshima Island

Les Archives du Coeur (心臓音のアーカイブ) is a powerful and thought-provoking art installation by French artist Christian Boltanski. This unique exhibit is dedicated to preserving and showcasing recorded heartbeats from people all over the world. Inside a dimly lit, immersive room, visitors can listen to the rhythmic sound of heartbeats, creating a deeply personal and reflective atmosphere. The installation not only allows visitors to hear the heartbeat of others but also invites them to contribute their own, adding their rhythm to this ever-growing global archive of life.

Les Archives du Coeur is an integral part of the Setouchi Triennale, a renowned art festival held across the Seto Inland Sea. The exhibit’s minimalist design and serene coastal location enhance its emotional impact, allowing visitors to reflect on the fragility and universality of human life. The installation stands as a poignant symbol of memory, connection, and the passage of time, offering a deeply moving experience that resonates with anyone who steps into its quiet, contemplative space.
