Kitakyushu Manga Museum
The Kitakyushu Manga Museum (北九州市漫画ミュージアム) is a vibrant destination dedicated to the history and culture of manga, with a special emphasis on famous artists linked to Kitakyushu City. The museum, located on the fifth and sixth floors of Aru-Aru City, a shopping mall dedicated to manga, anime, games, and idol culture, offers an immersive experience. On the sixth floor, visitors are greeted by a striking mural and a life-size figure of Captain Harlock from Matsumoto Leiji’s Galaxy Express 999. Matsumoto Leiji, renowned for works like Space Battleship Yamato, is a central figure in the museum, with exhibits detailing his career and artistic journey.
The museum boasts a permanent exhibition on the sixth floor, as well as rotating displays on the fifth. One of the most captivating features is the "Manga Time Tunnel," which showcases manga dating back to 1945, allowing visitors to trace the development of this popular art form over time. The museum also includes a comic book library, providing a space where visitors can freely read a wide selection of titles. Although most of the exhibits are in Japanese, the museum provides a comprehensive and engaging look into the world of manga, making it an essential stop for enthusiasts and anyone eager to learn more about this iconic art form.
