Kaneiji Temple

Kaneiji Temple (寛永寺), once one of Tokyo’s largest and wealthiest temples during the Edo period, was destroyed in the Boshin War. Remnants of the original complex, like the five-story pagoda and Toshogu Shrine, can still be found scattered throughout Ueno Park. Today, the temple is a small, relatively modest structure, located in a peaceful corner of Ueno Park. Despite its simplicity, it offers a glimpse into Tokyo’s rich historical past, blending with the serene atmosphere of the park.
