Enoura Observatory
Enoura Observatory (江之浦測候所) is a breathtaking open-air museum nestled in the hills south of Odawara. Designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings, it features contemporary art, striking architecture, and observation decks with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. The Meigetsu Gate Area includes a 100-meter gallery aligned with the summer solstice, a glass stage facing the winter solstice sunrise, and ancient stone sculptures sourced from across Japan. This seamless fusion of art, nature, and cosmic alignment makes it a must-visit for culture and architecture enthusiasts.
Just a short walk away, the Bamboo Grove Area offers tranquil trails through a lush forest of bamboo and citrus trees. Visitors can explore captivating installations such as Mathematical Model 0010 and a rustic shed displaying fossils and ancient tools. Exploring the observatory typically takes 1–2 hours, and advance reservations are highly recommended, as it can become quite crowded.
