Matsumae is small, and you can easily walk to all the main attractions.

Ryuunin Temple
Ryuunin Temple (龍雲院, Ryūun-in), founded in 1625, stands as a significant cultural site in Matsumae. This Soto sect Buddhist temple features five buildings designated as Important Cultural Properties, including the main hall and bell tower. The temple's serene atmosphere is enhanced by its traditional architecture and well-maintained grounds, offering visitors a glimpse into Japan's Edo-period religious heritage.
Adjacent to Ryuunin is the Matsumae Temple District, home to several historic temples predating Matsumae Castle. Notably, the district houses the graveyard of the Matsumae lords and the revered Kechimyaku Sakura, a 200-year-old cherry tree considered the progenitor of many blossoms in Matsumae Park. This area provides a tranquil setting to explore the spiritual and historical facets of Matsumae.
