Matsumae is small, and you can easily walk to all the main attractions.

Matsumaehan Yashiki
Matsumaehan Yashiki (松前藩屋敷, Matsumaehan Yashiki) is a historical theme park on the western edge of Matsumae Park, offering an engaging glimpse into life during the Edo Period. The park features 14 carefully recreated buildings such as merchant houses, a magistrate’s office, and a shipping agent’s quarters. Inside, life-sized mannequins dressed in traditional clothing help bring the old town atmosphere to life.
To make the experience more memorable, visitors can rent Edo-period costumes and walk through the town as if they were living in that era. The mix of architecture, historical detail, and hands-on interaction makes Matsumaehan Yashiki a fun and educational way to explore Matsumae’s rich heritage and enjoy a step back in time.
