4 of 10 in Hiroshima

Shukkeien Garden (縮景園) in Hiroshima offers a peaceful escape, with miniature versions of mountains, valleys, and forests carefully arranged around a large central pond. A winding path leads you through these scenic landscapes, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the garden’s beauty from every angle. Along the way, charming tea houses provide relaxing spots with lovely views over the water and greenery.

Dating back to 1620, just after Hiroshima Castle was completed, Shukkeien reflects the elegance of traditional Japanese garden design. Its name means “shrunken-scenery garden,” perfectly capturing how it recreates natural scenes in a compact space. With its thoughtful layout and timeless atmosphere, Shukkeien is a quiet place to slow down and enjoy nature in the heart of the city.
