From Tokyo to Toyama

  • From Tokyo, you can take a highway bus to Toyama in about 7 hours. Prices range from 3,500 to 8,600 yen, depending on the bus company and travel date. Day and night buses are available.

From Osaka to Toyama

  • By train

  • From Osaka, take the JR Thunderbird limited express to Tsuruga (about 80 minutes), then transfer to the Hokuriku Shinkansen to reach Toyama (another 80 minutes). The full trip takes just under 3 hours, costs around 10,500 yen, and is covered by major JR passes. International visitors can buy discounted one-way tickets for 8,500 yen. Seat reservations are required on the Thunderbird train.

  • From Osaka, you can take a highway bus to Toyama from Shin-Osaka or Umeda. The ride takes about 5.5 hours and costs between 3,700 and 10,100 yen, depending on the date and bus company. Both daytime and overnight buses are available.

From Kyoto to Toyama

  • By train

  • From Kyoto, take the JR Thunderbird limited express to Tsuruga (50 minutes), then transfer to the Hokuriku Shinkansen to reach Toyama (80 minutes). The full trip takes about 2.5 hours, costs around 9,000 yen, and is covered by major JR passes. International tourists can also get a discounted one-way ticket for 7,500 yen. Note: Seat reservations are required on the Thunderbird train.

  • From Kyoto, you can take a highway bus to Toyama in about 4.5 hours. Prices range from 3,500 to 9,900 yen, depending on the date and bus company. Both day and night buses are available. Daytime buses usually leave from the Kyoto-Fukakusa bus stop, which is a bit outside the city center.

From Kanazawa to Toyama

  • By train

  • From Kanazawa, you can take the JR Hokuriku Shinkansen to Toyama in just 20 minutes for about 3000 yen, and it’s covered by major JR passes like the Japan Rail Pass and Hokuriku passes; or choose a cheaper non-JR train via the IR Ishikawa Railway and Ainokaze Toyama Railway, which takes about 1 hour, costs 1290 yen, runs 1–2 times per hour, but is not covered by any JR pass.

From Takayama to Toyama

  • By bus

  • From Takayama, you can take a direct highway bus to Toyama operated by Nohi Bus or Toyama Chiho. The ride takes about 2.5 hours, costs 3800 yen, and runs a few times a day. You don’t need to transfer, and it’s a comfortable way to enjoy the scenery along the way.
