Fukui Dinosaur Museum
Fukui Dinosaur Museum (福井県立恐竜博物館, Fukui Kenritsu Kyōryū Hakubutsukan) is Japan’s largest and most impressive dinosaur museum, located in Katsuyama City, about 25 km east of Fukui City. It sits near the country’s most active dinosaur excavation site. Spread over four floors, the museum offers a thrilling mix of real fossils, life-size dinosaur models, and hands-on experiences. A life-like animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex greets visitors at the entrance, setting the stage for the exciting exhibits that follow.
The main Dinosaur World exhibition features over 40 full skeletons, including local discoveries like Fukuiraptor and Fukuisaurus. The Earth Sciences area lets guests touch real fossils and watch scientists work in a research lab. Visitors can also explore how dinosaurs evolved into birds, enjoy a movie theater, shop at the museum store, and walk among outdoor dinosaur models scattered around the grounds.
